The D3S bulb is an OEM high-intensity discharge (HID) light source that produces light through an electric arc inside a xenon-filled chamber rather than a filament or LED diode.

Unlike first-generation D1 and D2 xenon formats, the D3S standard is mercury-free. D3S bulbs operate at 42V and 35W nominal power and require a D3-specific HID ballast.
